Award-winning author Janet Benton is my official muse of dedication and perseverance.  A business owner and mother, Benton published her debut novel Lilli de Jong after steadily working for 12 years. She spent over 8000 (worth-every-second-for-readers) hours of thorough research and masterful fiction writing.

Called “a gorgeous paean to the courage and ferocity of a mother’s love” by Shelf Awareness and “a super lush historical novel and an amazing feminist manifesto” by Book RiotLilli de Jong is on no less than twenty-one Bookbub lists and was named one of National Public Radio’s Best Books of 2017. Kirkus Reviews adds that “Benton holds a mirror up to the past and, in doing so, illustrates how far we have come as well as how far we have yet to go. An absorbing debut from a writer to watch.”

While Lilli de Jong is about a 19th-century woman that history seemed to sweep under the carpet without a trace, Benton’s themes are more relevant than ever today.
